We are independent funeral directors and celebrants. We arrange funerals in Somerset, Wiltshire and Bath and North East Somerset (BANES).
We set up Greenwood Funerals in 2013 in response to changes in the way people think about funerals. We are not your typical funeral directors and we bring to our work a wide range of experience from outside the funeral industry.
We care about getting it right for you and providing a kind professional service. To do this, we will listen to what you want to happen and be flexible and open-minded in our response.
Listening without imposing our views lies at the heart of how we work whether you opt for a religious, non-religious, humanist, secular, traditional, contemporary, alternative, green, eco, ethical, DIY or spiritual funeral.
When someone dies, you may feel overwhelmed by all the decisions you have to make in order to organise the funeral. Our commitment is to guide and support you through these difficult weeks.
Our intention is to make sure that you receive as much emotional and practical support as you need in arranging the funeral.
Our priorities are to
- give you clear information so that you can take informed decisions about what you want to happen.
- make any necessary arrangements on your behalf allowing you to focus on what matters most to you.
- be open and transparent in our dealings with you so there are no misunderstandings.
- work within your budget.
- give you as much time as you need to have the kind of funeral you have chosen to have.
- ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible on the day.
With regard to funeral costs, we charge realistic prices and unlike most funeral directors, we do not mark-up goods or services: for example, on the hire of vehicles and the purchase of coffins.
As experienced celebrants, we can also help you create a funeral ceremony for the person who has died which feels just right. We understand the importance of the funeral service in helping people to grieve and honour the dead. We have extensive experience in non-religious funerals whether these are strictly humanist or more loosely spiritual in their ethos and content.
We are Angela Ward, Peter Macfadyen and Charles Kemp. Greenwood Funerals is registered with Company House as a private limited company (no 862285). We are recommended by the Good Funeral Guide whose values we share and although we are no longer members ourselves, we work in accordance with the SAIF Code of Practice.
For the hands-on care of those who have died, we make use of the professional services of the Cheddar and District Funeral Directors who are affiliated to the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) and The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). Their premises are located in Cheddar and Bath.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) requires all funeral directors to display a Standardised Price List offering prices for an Attended Funeral, an Unattended Funeral, Fees You Must Pay for burial and cremations in the local area, and Additional Funeral Products and Services. Please read this alongside our own Price List.
The CMA also requires us to display our Terms of Business and Disclosure of Interests.
